Het Japanse Kuraray heeft harde koolstof op basis van kokosnootschil op de markt gebracht, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van processen zoals carbonisatie, vermaling, alkalische behandeling, warmtezuivering en CVD. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nadelen: Beperkt aanbod, afhankelijkheid van import:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De binnenlandse productie is onvoldoende en heeft een lagere hardheid: kokosnoten worden voornamelijk geteeld in Indonesi\u00eb, de Filipijnen, Sri Lanka en India. China&#039;s belangrijkste productie vindt plaats in Hainan (99% van de binnenlandse productie), maar de jaarlijkse productie dekt slechts ongeveer 6 GWh aan batterijbehoefte, ver onder de toekomstige behoefte aan natriumionbatterijen. Als typische polysacharide heeft zetmeel een hoog koolstofgehalte en lage kosten. Het groeit op grote schaal, van het Qinling-gebergte tot het Yangtze-bekken en Taiwan, met enige teelt in de regio van de Gele Rivier. Door de lage kosten is het beheersbaar. De productie van harde koolstof uit bamboe omvat voorbehandeling, carbonisatie en nabehandeling van precursors, vergelijkbaar met kunstmatig grafiet, maar zonder grafitisatie.
