Ultrafine Alumina Grinding Jet Mill Production Line in Sichuan

A high-tech materials manufacturer required ultrafine alumina (Al₂O₃) powder for advanced ceramic and electronic applications. The key requirements included very fine particle size, narrow distribution, high purity, and minimal contamination. Due to the hardness and brittleness of alumina, conventional mechanical grinding methods could not meet the customer’s quality expectations. Epic Powder was selected to provide a jet mill grinding solution to produc alumina for the client.

The raw material was high-purity alumina (Al₂O₃) with a Mohs hardness above 9. The customer emphasized the importance of contamination-free processing and a narrow particle size distribution to ensure consistent downstream performance. After technical evaluation, Epic Powder selected a fluidized bed jet mill, which is especially suitable for ultrafine powder grinding of hard materials.

In the production process, compressed air is first filtered and dried before entering the jet mill system. The alumina powder is fed into the grinding chamber, where high-speed airflow accelerates the particles. The high-speed airflow drives intense particle-to-particle collisions to achieve particle size reduction, rather than relying on mechanical impact. An internal dynamic classifier precisely controls the final fineness and allows qualified ultrafine particles to exit the system, while the system automatically returns oversized particles for further grinding. The fully enclosed system ensures clean, stable, and reliable operation.

After commissioning and parameter optimization, the jet mill system achieved stable production results. The final product reached a particle size of D97 = 2.07 μm, with a consistent output of 130 kg/h. The ultrafine alumina powder showed a narrow particle size distribution and no detectable metal contamination, fully meeting the customer’s technical requirements.
