Pentaerythritol(PE) Grinding Jet Milling Project in Sichuan

A coatings manufacturer needed a reliable jet milling to supply ultra-fine pentaerythritol (PE) powder at D90 10μm – fine enough to deliver the smooth film formation, consistent gloss, and uniform opacity their coating formulations require.

Two things made this difficult. First, pentaerythritol is heat-sensitive. Conventional mechanical mills generate friction heat that risks degrading the powder chemistry and affecting end-product performance. Second, holding a tight particle size distribution at D90 10μm requires precision classification that hammer mills and pin mills cannot reliably deliver at production scale.

The client also needed continuous output at 200 kg/h – enough to supply production-scale manufacturing, not just pilot runs.

The EPIC Powder Solution

EPIC Powder Machinery supplied a fluidised bed jet mill with integrated dynamic classifier, configured for pentaerythritol:

•No heat generation: compressed air drives particle-on-particle impact with no metal surfaces touching the product. Thermal degradation risk eliminated.

•Precision classification: the dynamic classifier was tuned to hold D90 at 10μm with a narrow span, delivering consistent fineness across every batch.

•200 kg/h validated: throughput was confirmed during a pre-delivery trial run, so the client knew exactly what to expect before installation.
